"Buffing" is slang for graffiti removal that utilizes the "buffed" look of functional masking using paint.
The implications of appreciating "buffing" need not be pro or anti graffiti. Instead it can be seen as a form of "subconscious art" appreciation (or "subliminal art" appreciation).
My hope is to help facilitate a buffing archive community that will eventually publish a book of our photo documents.

Types of Buffing/Masking
Three types of graffiti masking can be discerned:
1. conservative: buffing that utilizes clean lines, rectangular forms and neutral or blending coloring choices.
2. ghosting: buffing that follows or "ghosts" the original tag or graffiti so that the original form can be somehow seen.
3. radical: this form of graffiti removal enjoys a creative use of the graffiti removal medium. An example might be a buff in the shape of a whale, drawn with eyes and spout.
